Primarily responsible for the timely and accurate review, evaluation and processing of loan applications and supporting information. Provide needed assistance to others within the Consumer and Indirect Lending areas.
Receive and review incoming loan application requests and supporting documentation delivered through managed electronic lending portals, queues or other avenues of receipt.
Underwrite and process loans depending on department need to meet stated service levels on a daily basis.
Utilize department policies & guidelines, in addition to cognitive thinking, to build profitable, performing secured and unsecured loans.
Conduct credit analysis on each loan applications including review of tax returns (personal and business), cash flow analysis, debt-ratio calculations, credit-scoring and collateral valuations.
Communicate with internal and external parties to ensure all appropriate information has been received from borrowers to best evaluate loan requests and ability to repay as stated. Manage pending applications within Loan Origination System (LOS) queues as directed.
Document loan decisions in such a manner and detail needed for yourself and/or others to accurately communicate lending decisions to external merchants/dealers, borrowers, regulators, and/or other department team members.
Properly review and clear credit report fraud alerts. Discuss escalated fraud issues with management or other internal Credit Union departments.
Document identified cross-sell opportunities and additional offers. Provide sufficient details including product, rate and term information to assist in the team's future engagement of borrowers to act on these opportunities.
Communicate decisions to borrowers and/or dealers via email and/or phone. Answer and address any questions or concerns presented. Document additional details as needed.
Mentor other team members and assist with daily work to meet production and service expectations and to develop and maintain an expert level of underwriting skills and knowledge.
Maintain high level knowledge of all Credit Union products and services. Be able to explain products and services to external merchant/dealer contacts, borrowers and/or regulators as needed.
Adhere to all local, state, and federal laws/regulatory requirements as related to functional areas including Truth in Lending, Reg B, Reg Z, and Bank Secrecy Act. Complete training as required.
Complete other duties as assigned.
Minimum of 5 years experience underwriting
Ability to analyze and determine ability-to-pay from personal and business tax returns, profit n loss, balance sheets, and cash flow statements; including Business Returns.
Ability to communicate with external loan referral sources, borrowers, members, applicants and internal staff.
Adept at utilizing most current technology and software to evaluate loan requests.
Possess critical thinking skills and applies learned lending principles according to the unique needs of each borrower and their risk profile. Ability to discern lower risk loans from higher risk loans.
Strong commitment to providing excellent member service with a “what ever it takes” attitude.
Ability to confidently make decisions and construct counter-offers with creative options within the credit-risk appetite of the credit union.
